The Two Foot Gauge Railway is not original to the station but was constructed partly to help in moving heavy machinery around the site and partly to demonstrate a typical installation used for maintenance by river authorities, and also in peat works. In either situation the lines would be laid where the work was taking place and then moved as the operation progressed.
An incline has been constructed behind the Exhibition Hall to demonstrate one of the methods used, that of moving wagons by winch and rope haulage using the Lynn Steam Winch. (031A) Alongside the line leading to the incline can be seen a Rope Bollard (031B) used to change the direction of the rope when the winch was not in line with the truck being pulled.
The Simplex loco (024) came from the Severn-Trent Authority who used it at Minworth Sewage Treatment Works. The Lister (102) came from Fisons peat works at Ashcott where it hauled peat wagons. Rails, wagons and turntables were retrieved from various locations including a flooded clay pit.
