Winding House
Winding House

Before renovation
This is a steam winch, built by John Lynn of Sunderland. It was used to move milk tankers at a dairy in Devon, on the railway siding to the factory. It has been restored to working order now, and is used to demonstrate the moving of trucks on the site's 2 foot gauge railway.

Renovated and now in working order

Another view
This boiler is from the "telescopic bridge" in Bridgwater. This bridge carried the railway over the River Parrett to the docks. It was necessary for the bridge to open, to allow shipping to pass through. It was designed to slide sideways and then back alongside the fixed railway track. The boiler is the only part of the machinery to escape scrapping. It will be given a "cosmetic" restoration when the winding house is complete.
