The Thyer Cafe

Nestled within the historic surroundings of the Westonzoyland Pumping Station Museum, The Thyer Café offers a warm and welcoming space to relax, refuel, and soak up the atmosphere of one of Somerset’s most distinctive heritage sites.

Named in honour of the Thyer family—two generations who faithfully operated the pumping station from the 1860s through to the 1950s—the café celebrates the people behind the history, as well as the place itself.

Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, the café is at the heart of the museum’s community spirit. Whether you’re visiting for a steaming day, a special event, or simply exploring the exhibits, you’ll find a friendly face and a tempting selection of refreshments waiting for you. From freshly prepared light bites to homemade cakes and hot drinks, the menu is designed to provide something for everyone.

The Thyer Café is open during all museum events, as listed on our What’s On page, making it the perfect stop to complement your visit. In addition, the café is available for private hire—ideal for group gatherings, celebrations, or bespoke events in a unique and characterful setting. Please enquire via the Contact page.

Come for the history, stay for the hospitality, and enjoy the charm of a café that’s powered by passion.
